       Spring Break - the kids are off, the parents are off, let's all cuddle and read books and have leisurely mornings, and then what?
       In town, Houston museums and parks are gearing up for Spring Break with extended hours and added programs, and we have plenty of options everyday.

WIZARD OF OZ - MARCH 4-16

Theatre Under The Stars presents a new production of the beloved musical "The Wizard Of Oz." This show features all the favorite songs from the classic movie as well as some new tunes by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Follow the yellow brick road along with Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion. Share their adventures as they journey through the magical land of Oz to meet the Wizard!

 

MIRACOCO: ARCHITECTS OF AIR LUMINARIUM -
MARCH 15-23

Families can enter and explore the luminarium Miracoco, an inflatable structure inspired by the Lotus Temple in India and designed by Architects of Air. The temporary structure is a maze of winding paths and soaring domes that are filled with light and color. It's about the size of half a football field and rises nearly 30 feet high. Last year, more than 8,000 people visited the luminarium Exxopolis. Admission is limited to 80 people inside Miracoco at one time. 


A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD -
MARCH 1 - APRIL 5

Main Street Theater - Chelsea Market, 4617 Montrose, 713-524-6706 

This delightful musical is a celebration of friendship and individuality. Frog is optimistic while Toad is grumpy, but they are best friends. Together through four seasons, they plant gardens, swim, rake and sled, learning life lessons along the way.

 

RODEO HOUSTON - MARCH 4-23

Beyond the bull riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling and concerts, there are many fun and educational family activities at the Rodeo. The Kids Country and Fun on the Farm areas offer Mutton Bustin', Petting Zoo, Pig Races, Camel Rides and Pony Rides. In the AgVenture area, families can witness dairy cattle, pigs and sheep giving birth at the Birthing Center. Kids can milk cows, pet bunnies and learn about Texas crops such as cotton. There are more than 70 rides at the Carnival, with the rides for younger children in the Kids Country Carnival section.

DESTINATION CELEBRATION SPRING BREAK BASH - MARCH 8-23

Children's Museum of Houston, 1500 Binz, 713-522-1138

Kids can soar high on four Bungee Trampolines, roll in two Human Hamster Balls and climb a couple of Coconut Trees. The daily spring break itinerary includes: a steel drummer at 10 a.m.; a dance party at 1:30 p.m.; live and interactive performances at 2:30 p.m.; and family-friendly competitions and games at 4 p.m.  

 

BAYOU BEND & RIENZI FREE FAMILY DAY - MARCH 16

Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens & Rienzi, 713-639-7750 
FREE ADMISSION. In celebration of spring, this family day's theme is "Bayou Bend & Rienzi in Bloom." Families can enjoy the gardens and nature at these two historic homes while participating in crafts and other activities. The entertainment also includes musical performances and demonstrations. A complimentary shuttle will be available to transport guests between Bayou Bend and Rienzi. Volunteers will be available for tours.  
 

OIL RANCH - MARCH 12-15 & MARCH 19-22

Owner Lynn Brunson advises parents to call before coming to make sure the weather conditions are ideal for a wonderful family experience. On the 56-acre property, kids can take hay rides, pony rides and train rides. They can hand milk a cow and pet the friendly farm animals. Other activities include mining for fossils and gemstones, miniature golf and fishing.
