Santa's Postman App by a Houston Daddy-Daughter Team

INTERACTIVE GAME WITH ELVES & LETTERS TO SANTA CLAUS

by Bernadette Verzosa

In this era of Smartphones and electronic tablets, many children are learning the word "App" shortly after dog and cat. Within just a few years, Apps have invaded the daily lives of families. Some parents may even list some Apps among their basic necessities.

And so, a couple of Houston area parents who happen to be App developers decided to create a high-tech Christmas story that they hope will catch on with this new digital generation.

"We love Christmas. I grew up watching Frosty and Rudolph. My kids grew up watching Frosty and Rudolph. We need a new Christmas story that can be added to those. We hope Santa's Postman is that new Christmas story for the 21st century," says Elizabeth Drake, Vice President at Infinite Skyz, a Clear Lake-based computer software company.

Drake and her business partner Bruce Paggeot developed Santa's Postman, an interactive App about Kuri, a happy elf in charge of delivering letters to Santa.

"We wanted to have a back story to the characters, to have kids track Santa and communicate with Santa. We wanted to create tension but we were careful that it wasn't too scary for young children," says Paggeot, President at Infinite Skyz.

TECH-SAVVY DAUGHTER

To ensure their appeal to the younger set, Paggeot turned to a trusted expert – his 8-year-old daughter Coco. "I sometimes have to ask her how to operate my iPad, she is tech-savvy with her computer, so we brought her in as a consultant through the whole process."

Coco shared her thoughts on the story, made suggestions on the characters and lent her voice. Coco is the narrator for Kuri, Santa's Postman.

"My favorite part was working on the ideas with my dad. It was very cool. I was excited to see my name in the App, and it's really in the App Store," says Coco.

The daddy-daughter duo has plenty of experience as a team. They enjoy doing science experiments together - they find many instructional videos on YouTube.

Coco says she also loves playing games, going camping and making s'mores with her dad. But the App experience has her hooked. "I would like to work on another App with my dad. It makes me feel happy," she says.

SANTA'S POSTMAN ELEMENTS

Santa's Postman is a children's story and interactive game with 20 levels. Kuri is trying to deliver children's letters to Santa Claus. Some elves from the ‘Naughty Elves Division' of the North Pole – Grime, Ember and Ashe - are trying to foil his attempts.

Kids can engage in virtual snowball fights, select holiday music, control the winter weather and email letters to Santa. Parents can send copies of the letters to relatives so the whole family knows what's on the Christmas wish list.

Santa's Postman is available in ten languages including Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Traditional Mandarin and Simplified Mandarin.

Plans are underway to develop the Santa's Postman App into a hardcover book. Further into the future, it may become a Christmas movie! Look out!
