Mommie Series - Houston Moms' Night Out

Kingwood mom Anika Jackson squeezes much into her day. She is a managing partner at Hardcastle Properties, a volunteer at the Junior League, a loving wife and devoted mother to her four-year-old daughter, Siri.

Still, she says she clears her schedule to make sure she doesn't miss the seasonal Mommie Series evenings. "I have made so many friends from the events," she says. "I am able to network and meet like-minded mothers. I love that each one is in a new location, which helps me get to know the city, and the speakers are always going to speak about something that is important to moms."

Jackson has attended five of the quarterly sessions billed as an educational and entertaining Moms' Night Out. Motherhood mingling is mixed with informative speakers. Each edition features experts on health, family, finance and fashion. Guests are also able to interact with the speakers.

The Mommie Series Houston was created by Misti Pace-Krahl in 2011. Initially, she simply wanted to help her friends and colleagues who are moms. "I did this for my girlfriends and it has grown. My girlfriends who are educated and held powerful positions in their careers were often frustrated that they didn't just automatically know what to do when issues came up with their kids," she says. "You think you're female, you just know how to be mom. But you have to search for answers each time a problem comes to attention."

Pace-Krahl selects a variety of hot topics for each edition. Past events have featured doctors, fashion stylists, authors, educators, financial advisors and nutritionists. "I listen to what moms say they're interested in learning about. There are no more than fifty mothers at each event so it's an intimate, sophisticated and safe setting," she says. "It's a small enough group that they feel comfortable meeting other moms, and also speaking up and asking questions. I arrange that they can communicate with professionals at their fingertips."

The Spring 2013 Mommie Series Houston is on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. It's being hosted by The Motherhood Center at 3701 West Alabama. Sabrina Miskelly, Producer of ABC 13's "Mirror, Mirror" will be Master of Ceremony. The featured speakers and their topics are: Thais Amaral Tellawi on Estate Planning in Texas; Janine Godwin on Organizing Your Home; April Ree on A Natural Approach to Health; and Gabriela Gerhart, owner of The Motherhood Center, will speak on An Educational Center for Moms.

Pace-Krahl says she has received requests to create more of these educational moms' night out events in surrounding areas including Katy, The Woodlands, Clear Lake and Galveston. She recently launched the Mommie Series "Mombassador" program which rewards mothers who help with the expansion with free tickets and product samples.

"There is so much fulfillment from it. I see the satisfaction, relief and excitement from mothers of that evening. I see them walk away pleased with the information," says Pace-Krahl.

As she schedules the speakers and lines up the locations for the Summer and Fall Editions of the Mommie Series, Pace-Krahl also has her sights set beyond Texas. "As responsive as Houston has been, we hope to offer the forum in other major cities." Look out - Houston moms may just follow and make it a Mommie Series getaway!
