The following list begins with the larger performance halls. The latter half of the list includes smaller theaters that may be preferable to families looking for more intimate experiences.
 

MILLER OUTDOOR THEATRE

All performances are free. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Families can bring picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs. The 2013 season brings Pinocchio, Goldilocks, Hansel & Gretel, Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr., The Three Little Pigs and more.

DISCOVERY GREEN

1500 McKinney Street, 713-400-7336

All performances are free. Families can bring blankets and lawn chairs.

This park offers a wide variety of entertainment from live music to films, from story time readings to children's writing workshops.

Performances by Broadway Across America & Theatre Under The Stars

The 2013-2014 Season features Elf the Musical, The Wizard of Oz and The Little Mermaid.

Performances by Houston Symphony & Society for the Performing Arts

The Houston Symphony's Family Concert Series includes four performances in the Fall 2013-Spring 2014 Season: Peter and the Wolf, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Wild, Wild West! and Belle of the Ball.

 

WORTHAM THEATER CENTER, BROWN THEATER

Performances by Houston Ballet & Mercury

Houston Ballet performs the Nutcracker from November 29-December 29. In Spring 2014, the spotlight's on Houston Ballet's Aladdin and Swan Lake.

 
     

MAIN STREET THEATER

The 2013-2014 Theater for Youth Season shows include: Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, The Giver, A Year with Frog and Toad, James and the Giant Peach, and Pippi Longstocking: The Family Musical.

In December, families can enjoy A Fairy Tale Christmas Carol Starring Santa Claus. In Spring 2014, the spotlight's on the childhood favorites Willy Wonka and Schoolhouse Rock Live!
