When I heard that I was going to Disney's Freaky Friday at the Alley Theatre, I was excited. I had read the novel by Mary Rodgers and liked it, so I was sure I would like the musical too.
Freaky Friday is a story about a mother and daughter who magically switch bodies for a day and see what life is like as the other person. The performers who played the mother and daughter in the musical were so convincing switching places, I almost forgot they were acting. I could identify with the daughter, Ellie, because like her, I have a little brother. I could also sympathize with the mom, who had to live with a pink-haired, tattooed teenager.

It was funny to see how the teenagers acted. They were crazy! It was also funny to see the mom acting like a teenager when they switched bodies. Her snarl and slouch were very convincing.

My favorite song was "Busted," when the mother and daughter discover some shocking truths about each other, and also discover how alike they are. For example, they both have Twinkies hidden away "cause we all need some cream filling now and then." Another one of my favorite songs was "After All of This and Everything" because it was such a sweet moment between Ellie and her little brother.

Freaky Friday is a great show with a powerful message portrayed in a comical way. Seeing it onstage really enhanced the story for me, and seeing it with my mom was especially meaningful. I left the theater feeling more connected to my mom and my family, and I was reminded of how important it is to try to empathize with others.
